Apache Indians collection, 1860-1937.

Summary: Collection consists of a broad range of materials concerning Apache Indians. Most of the collection involves the Jicarilla Apaches, including a handwritten transcript of an 1873 treaty between the Jicarillas and the U.S. Government; correspondence between U.S. Indian Agent James A. Dolan and officials of the U.S. Office of Indian Affairs regarding the treaty (1873-1874); and vouchers for goods and services provided to Jicarillas at the U.S. Indian Agency in Cimarron, New Mexico (1872-1874). Also within the collection are letters concerning claims against Apaches for depredations in New Mexico during 1860 and 1861; publications of the Jicarillas' constitution and bylaws (1937); and an undated letter by Charles D. Poston estimating the populations of Apaches, Pimas, Papagos, Yumas, Utes, Hualapais, Hopis, and other Indians in Arizona.
